About Liz

Liz McAllister has been working with families in the DC area for 14 years. She earned a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development at George Washington University and spent five years as an elementary special education teacher working with students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. A firm believer in child led learning, Liz took her expertise out of the classroom and has spent several years delivering mission driven educational services to her local community by facilitating child-directed, outdoor, play-based learning classes through the nationwide program, Tinkergarten.

Liz loves to help children enhance sensory and perceptual-motor skills, language development, cognition and memory development by employing access to sensory rich environments and open-ended play scenarios. Liz’s positive approach to learning and behavioral modification helps children feel supported and valued. She loves developing positive relationships and providing parents and caregivers with tools to help their children learn through play.  Liz has additional experience in behaviors, experience working with families experiencing trauma, and a broad knowledge and understanding of developmental milestones and behavioral schema.  In her free time, Liz enjoys kitchen dance parties and spending time exploring outdoors with her husband and three children.
